The breaker plate and the advance unit are completely replaced by electronics. Two microprozessors are computing the ignition timing and the dwell angle optimally so that the ignition coils are spared and the energy consumption of the ignition is dropped to a minimum. The adjustment is very easy and effected via rotating the magnetic disk on the driver. A small light emitting diode on the printed circuit board indicates when the correct position is reached.
The measurement happens by magnetic-field components (Hall effect sensors), which are characterized by a high temperature tolerance.
