The original condition of the GS550 has been breaker points (GS550 to 1980) or a CDI ignition system. Spare parts are more expensive and rare, so it makes sense also to equip them with a digital ignition system. This offers the possibility of using different advance curves, achieving better performance characteristics.
For the assembly the breaker points or all CDI-components must be removed and replaced by the ZDG3-system. The adjustment occurs simply by rotating the magnetic disk and the correct position is indicated by an LED on the PCB.
