For racing applications and harsh environments now are Hall sensor pickups are available. As trigger two differently polarized magnetic fields are necessary. The magnets are fitted to standard in an aluminum disc and the assembly is similar to the light barrier version.
Different to the light barrier version is that no sektor disk is needed, the magnets can be attached to each turning part (e.g. flywheels), the printed circuit boards for the hall sensor(s) can be designed individually, even inside the engine. Therefore soon a new system for Ducati without the pickup coils can be offered.
The temperature range is 150°C and by a special silicone protection and ptfe lead also oil resistance is ensured.
The Hall sensor pickups supplies the same signal as the optical, so that the ZDG3-boxes can be used without restrictions.

Functional principle:
two magnets mounted in a distance of 60° and different polarity are triggering the Hall sensor. The clearance betwenn sensor and magnet schould be 1 to 3mm.
In the right picture a cylinder offset angle of 90° is assumed.
With single cylinder engines ony one Hall sensor is necessary.
For camshaft mounting additional two magnets in a distance of 30° are needed.
2 examples:
Honda CB750
Honda CB77

The Hall sensor pickups can be manufactured alternatively for each type of specified engine, additional costs are 25, - Euro.
