Solid State Headlight Relay LR022

connection schema for push button mode

Main switching operation:
The ignition switch only switches the control current for the electrical system. The main power cable for the starter (if any) is of course still connected directly to the battery. The 300W output power at terminal 6 (15/54) is dimensioned very high, because normally only consumers likebrake lights, horn, parking lights and ignition are remaining, but with additional equipment such as additional lightsthe power can increase very quickly.

Indicator operation:

time selection switch

To turn on the indicator only push the indicator button once. Depending on setting of the time selection now either the adjusted flashing time runs off, or the turn signal must be switched off by renewed pressing of the button.

switch in position '0': permanently indicating, switch off only by pressing the push button again
position 1-9: time lapse mode, the indicator turns off after the adjusted time (switch setting x 5sec).

Headlight operation :
As is to be seen in the connection diagram, the headlight is controlled by two buttons. The ' Light-on/off' - button is generally switching the head light on or off. With the other button it can switched between between high orlow beam.

One-Button-Mode:
If the dip switch 1 is set to position ON, the light can be controlled by only one button. With the ' Light on/off' - button the head light can be switched on or off and be selected between high and low beam. First pressing the button generally turns on the light. Each further pressing causes a change between high and low beam. To switch off the light the button must be held 4 seconds.

Additional functions :

To use existing light and turn signal switches, the inputs can be also changed to switch operation. By allocation the inputs in groups it is also possible to operate light and indicator in different modes (e.g. BMW with turn signal buttons and headlight switch).

DIP switch 3 in position ON: headlight in switch mode
DIP switch 4 in position ON: indicator in switch mode

With the second switch the input polaritycan be changed. Up to now the inputs always had been switched to ground. If the DIP switch 2 is set to position ON, the inputs can be triggered with a positive voltage. This is necessary to use the existing harness.

All outputs have a power of 100W and are short circuit proof. If a short-circuit or an open output (e.g. a broken bulb) is recognized, the output will be switched off and a LED on the relay signals the error. In addition the light will be switched automatically to high or low beam to avoid a driving without light.

LED1 flashing one time with pause: Indicator left, short cut or broken bulb
LED1 flashing continuously: high beam, short cut or broken bulb
LED1 flashing twice with pause: Indicator right, short cut or broken bulb
LED2 flashing three times with pause: low beam, short cut or broken bulb

The cable cross section of the connection from relay to lamp and from relay to battery should amount to 2,5mm2 to avoid any unnecessary voltage drop. It would be worthwhile to renew the cables to the lamp in this strength. The turn signal cables cross section should be 0,5-0,75mm2. The control cables could be theoretically 0,05mm2, but because of the mechanical stability cable cross sections of 0,3-0,5mm2 are recommendable.
